Concept design/Art

concept

There is no “collective perception” perhaps there never should be.

perhaps

Land Art Forest can be called (as it never is but always can) a community art project with direct input from the public, right from the start. The land artist ask you, people who follow me or the new and old members of Land Art Bos to give their ‘perception’ of the Land Art Forest.

possible

The most creative part of design/art is or better should be the ink and wash (crayons on napkins), sweeping ideas and all the various possibilities. The aim stays to plant a Land Art Forest but the perception and thereby the concept varies (the how and what).

conceivable

A social design process to bring about social change how we see the natural world, challenging the pure market-oriendness of design.

Envision, communication, interaction, common set of goals, lets scrape and add. Its noting new just different. Superflex (an Danish Artists Group) has created with the locale community Superkilen an urban park in Copenhagen.

potential

Lets create some Land Art in nature deprived area’s, deprived because of devastating fires or the always advancing concrete/brickwork. Holland, Portugal, Wales, Australia are the places on the agenda. Express concerns or issues through artistic approach, to trigger changes and events.

viable

You can give your ideas as a comment, email, or by the contact form on DabeArt. Some of the ideas already expressed: memory trees to remember people we have lost, outdoor photography, wish-tree, willow weaving (dead or living willow), land art poetry, tree adoption (it will be your own tree) with a growth report and nameplate and …………..

probable

Tell me which ideas you like or add ideas, tell me your own ideas. See me as the boat of the project, everybody can come on board and the boat keeps the project afloat.

Looking forwards to hear from you all.    *_*

idee/denkBeeld ontwerp

Trees are very adaptable, they can’t run away so they need to deal with whatever hits them. Last we talked about bare roots how much better they are above pot grown. Well how about this for bare roots.

hold onNNNNN

You find this at the edge of the Cleddau River in Pembrokeshire, Wales. The tidal river wash away slowly but certainly the soil leaving the roots bare. The water is brackish, not making it easier for the tree to cope. Yet, instead of giving up, the trees create with the elements an amazing sculpture and keep on growing on.

with a little help of my friends

This growing force of trees can be used to create art and many do. We only have to look at Japanese Niwaki, garden trees and or shrubs are pruned in amazing shapes. When a horse nibble on a tree is has no intention to shape the tree, but the effect on the tree is the same as Niwaki. In the west we also know some great examples of tree pruning in living sculptures.

David Nash created an Ash Dome as a piece of Land Art in his own private back garden in Wales, sadly the trees are now fighting against a fungus and loosing the battle. Still a sculpture made by man and tree will remain.

Bended Ash

Whenever you find a self seeded Ash in your garden, think sculpture. Ash seed like mad their seeds travel on the wind in search for some bare ground. They grow fast and are very adaptable. On the plot at Clegyr Boia they adapted in great strength against the constant wind. How longer they were on the land the later they came out of their winter buds to protect their leaves from the wind.

Tree Flag

Garden artists use the adaptability of trees to their own advantage or taste, making them grow in different shapes and angels. You will not find a circle of Ash like the Ash Dome in nature but you will find funny shaped Ash.
Now is the best time to bend them young Ash branches or Willow or Sycamore or Poplar or ……… A tree wil always find a way going back up but than in a bended manner. When the tree do give up you have created a wooden sculpture in a free hand style. There are many good books on Niwaki, topiary but the best book is try and error

Land Art Bos will have many bended and twisted trees and them trees who are naturally a bit more twisted and curled.

Re-silence what was said, in morning light.

Aussies

So much is said, so many are telling about the genius called Eucalyptus (tyalla).  Where do you start, when there are over 700 Eucalyptus species? When you see one you don’t see them all, it will take more than a morning to recall them all.  LIST

One thing stands high above water, they are tough. You can find an Eucalyptus under some extreem circumstances; with their roots under water or on the rocks. They have been around for a long time, coming and going in New Zealand for example. The last coming was with ships under the sails of human beings taking them all over the world. At times they had been there before and than left.

small

This happens in a odd way again. In Wales we grew Eucalyptus from seeds, only them species who could handle the climate and environment of the land Vagdavercustis. Exposed to salt winds and the extreems of wet and dry not to forget the cold. The species which did perform very well come from the cooler parts of Australia, like the mountains in East Australia.

seedlings

Surprisedly some of them are doing better in Wales than that they are doing in their native home land. The ‘Eucalyptus parvula’ is almost extinct and the ‘Eucalyptus crenulata’ is listed as threatened in the home-base yet both are doing very fine in Wales. They seem to move from New South Wales to Old South Wales.

hold on

Some of the trees have lignotubers which look like odd lumps at the base of the tree which function as a reserve for the tree to grow again after severe damage. You can cut the tree down to just above the lignotuber and it will grow again. Very handy when you want to use it for Eucalyptus oil.

together we go

The fast growing makes them such a money makers for an industrie of tissues.

Yes, i want to plant some Eucalyptus in the Land Art Bos Spiral, they are beautiful and tough but they have to share the space with many other trees.

Here a link to an other blogger who is busy saving an Eucalyptus forest.

Aim Doel

The ultimate aim of the Land Art Bos Association is to plant several forests in the shape of a Spiral.
The forests not only function as a place to make Land Art but most of all the forest will be Refugia for nature.

blog2dropreflection

An Association stands strong with the number of members it has, therefor the first thing is to ask people to become a member of the Land Art Bos Association LABA.
For now there are no costs involved just your name and contact details.

blog2klover

When we have the numbers it will become more easy to find a piece of land, to find a person or organisation willing to make land available for the planting of the forest.

As a member you not only get regular updates but also can be involved in other Land Art  activities.
Like a football club provide for their members the opportunity to play football, we will ‘play’ Land Art.

ALMOST

ALMOST
The last weeks have been very busy to get it all done for the expo.

Silent Reflection

Art  and symbols go hand in hand. Therefor i went to my old stomping ground to get some photos of where perhaps it once all began. Symbolic making connections between one place and the other. Using Earth Pigments from different places, Gom Terpentine from the Pines in Portugal.

Willow Trail

The willow trail goes to the river where, as a teenager, many days were spend to hide from the outer world. A cycle ride, no car in my household, not now, not than, choosing the right time for some other reflections.

double tripple

In between being in contact with Alcoutim where the expo will be, talking about titles, artists statement, text for leaflets and of course images. Well some images did go fine yet others came out almost right, almost but still not. The double exposure way of showing photos without photoshop is a challenge, almost there.

Like a Painting

Than while watching the sunrise making time for painting as some photos come out like paintings. The need for more skills was demanding a bit of time for reading and experimenting to get the effect i was looking for. Yes, it is so much easier to just buy some ready made frames to put the photos in but not so creative, much more expensieve and too heavy for on the plane.

What’s wrong

Almost got the effect and than problems creep around the corner and it is almost completely wrong. New experiments after yet an other trip to Rotterdam to get once again more material. To make paint from Earth Pigments is an other story. You need some chemistry to make it all the way you want and by times it is almost finished.
Other ingredients are: Linseed oil, home made glue with potato starch, paper, recycled carton (ugly grey stuf), double sided sticky tape and terpentine.
The tools are fascinating, glass plate, pipets, brushes, pallet knife, spoons, forks oh and where is the scissor.

Much Better

All the photos are printed and ready, half of the painting is done all the cutting to the size of the portfolio is done. If that was all it would be fine but in the meantime i bent my head around all the legal sorting for the realisation of the Land Art Bos, yep changed the name. Land Art Forest L.A.F. means in dutch cowardly and Land Art Bos L.A.B. stands for laboratory which is not so bad and it shows the multi languages, multi attitudes, multicultural of the project. We now have a ‘vereniging’ an association were soon people can become a member of, more of this at a later time. To top it off the bookings and life moves on like the restoration of an old wooden boat.

OK i am tired but Almost there.
